My name is Paul Nason, and am the Instrumental and Vocal Music Instructor here at Bishop Ryan for Grades 5-12. This is my fourth year teaching at BRCS. Throughout the year I teach Concert Band, Concert Choir, Middle School Band, Middle School Choir, Eighth Grade Choir, Jazz Band, and the Fifth Grade Band. In addition to my duties at BRCS, I also spend time as a private lesson instructor, the music director at St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, and a member of the Minot Symphony Orchestra as a Bassoonist and Saxophonist.
I was born in Bismarck, and I've spent my whole life in North Dakota. After graduating from Mandan High School in 2007, I moved to Fargo to pursue a degree in Music Education at North Dakota State University. During my studies, I was an active musician in the community, and competed nationally as part of the NDSU Saxophone Quartet, the school’s flagship chamber ensemble. After receiving my Bachelors of Music in Music Education in 2015, I moved back to Minot and received an opportunity the following year to join the Bishop Ryan family. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to grow, both as teacher and in my faith. In the Spring of 2019, I took a major step in my faith journey and completed my conversion to the Catholic Faith.
My philosophy is to remain flexible as a teacher; I understand that every circumstance is different, and I strive to keep an open line of communication to best serve you and your students in this journey. Every student has different strengths and goals, and I will work with them to grow as musicians and as virtuous people in a changing world. In my courses, we will develop students' abilities as musicians, while learning about music theory, music history, common practices, and how these can be beneficial outside of the school. As we continue to grow the music program, new opportunities will be created to provide the fullest possible experience. Please email me at pnason@brhs.com if you ever have any questions.
It is a privilege to be able to work with your children, and I am so excited to see their growth over the course of this year. Catholic Education is very important to me, and I am thankful you choose to send your children to our school.
