Earlier this month at a special assembly, Fr. Krebs presented the relic of St. Margaret of Castello to the school.
Born blind and with severe leg and spinal issues, Margaret's ashamed parents kept her hidden away, eventually abandoning her in an unfamiliar city during her teenage years.
Her faith became important to her as a young child, as celebrating the Eucharist reminded her that she wasn't alone; Jesus was always with her.
After her abandonment, homeless families and members of the Dominican order helped her find her true joy in praying with and performing good works for people in need. She visited prisoners, helped the sick and comforted the suffering.
When she died at the age of 33, the little girl whose birth had not been celebrated or acknowledged was honored with a funeral and procession that brought out the entire town of Castello.
St. Margaret's relic reminds us that even when we feel alone, Jesus is always with us, and that we can find joy in serving others who also feel abandoned.
