Every five years, Bishop Ryan Catholic School takes part in the Cognia School Accreditation Engagement Review process, an external review by a team consisting of trained educators from across the nation.
Cognia offers this process to over 35,000 schools in more than 80 countries, including all of the public school districts overseen by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.
With a goal of helping school districts improve outcomes for all learners, the process includes interviews with school administrators, faculty and support staff, students, parents, and community partners. The review of various information pieces like board reports, student achievement data, communications and surveys are combined with the data gathered in the interviews to evaluate performance against the Cognia Performance Standards.
The school was evaluated on 30 different standards under the headings of Leadership, Learning, and Resources. Each standard is ranked on a four-point scale from a low of “1” or “Insufficient” (Identifies areas with insufficient evidence or evidence that indicated little or no activity leading toward improvement) to a high of “4” or “Impacting” (Demonstrates noteworthy practices producing clear results that positively impact the institution).
The rankings are then figured into an Index of Education Quality (IEQ) score, a number that correlates to overall performance on a scale of 100 to 400. An IEQ score of 275 and above indicates the institution is beginning to reach the “Impact” level and is engaged in practices that are sustained over time and are becoming ingrained in the culture of the institution. The average of all Cognia Improvement Network evaluations over the last five years is 278.34 – 283.33.
With this most recent Cognia review, Bishop Ryan surpassed that average, achieving an IEQ score of 322.
Along with a strong, supportive and student-centered learning environment, the school was also recognized for strength in the demonstration of leadership capacity and the effective involvement of stakeholders to contribute to the school’s success toward the growth and development of students’ needs.
The success of this review is built on the dedication of our teachers, the hard work of our students and parents, and the support of the entire Lion family.
